Sometimes my chinchilla (Foofy) makes noises like hes hacking up something.. kinda like a screechy noise. is it just a hair ball or something? Or is he sick?
Also he lets me pet him. Does you chinchilla let you pet him? He's so cute! And the best thing is that we are both nocturnal :)

I have 3 chinchillas and the noise you are hearing is quite normal.
Its sounds like their warning call - which is nothing to worry about - a chinchillas' hearing is far better than ours and they can hear things that you cant.
As said it sounds perfectly normal

That is because he is happy and noises like that usually come when they are at play, they love attention and the more time you spend with them prevent them from being bored they are very curious creatures so you have to make sure to supervise them when out of their cage so they do not get into trouble ..
i used to kept them they like company get him a girlfriend they also like sultanas mine were mad they used to eat all my wires and run up my walls they like to be brushed aswell i think they are rabbits crossed with rats lololol good luck
