can you put 2 hampsters in the same a cage my friend has 3 in 1 cage the pet store said no?

Answers:
Depends on the size of the cage and if one hamster is aggresive or not. The pet store knows best because these people are trained in that field but your pet store must be wacked up because I have seen pictures and today when I went to the pet store where I life they had two hamstes in the same cage so if you think it will work out go for it. But I'd suggest that you would watch them when you first put them together, don't leave them alone because they may seem fine at first but it may take a turn for the worst. If something does happen get the hamster you just put in there out of there! The other hamster may feel like it's coming into HIS/ HER space. If the hamster has never been with another one that may come as a problem as well because they aren't use to having another one in there. So, your friend probably got her hamsters as babies and they have been together ever since so they are use to each other and were too little to hurt each other, so they got use to each other, see what I am saying?
Also make sure that the hamster is the same gender as the hamster you have now. Well, hope I helped some and good luck with your hamster(s).
They are very territorial, I have 1. Years ago I had 2 in a cage together, the one slaughtered the other one, it was ugly, tore him inot pieces.
Well, you'll notice that hamsters are sold in pet stores with bunches in the same cage - so I do not know what the big deal would be. I could only guess, that it might be a problem if they have to compete for food and water. So make sure they all have plenty of both, and everything should be fine. If there are boy hamsters living with girl hamsters, they might start to mate at some point.
no they will fight, hamsters are OK together at first, but as they mature they will fight, and one might injure or kill the other, hamsters like to live alone, and can get very attached to their owners, i had one that actually thought she was a dog, she would eat supper with us, and she would come when i whistled, but they are happier in there own separate cages
well i have a hampster and when i got mine the pet people said you should have 2 cages conecting so if the hamsters r mad at each other they can go in their own cages UNLESS you get both hampsters at the same time from the same place and they were in the same cage the should be fine. :)
no i would say not.but what a lame pet..a hamster.
Make sure you know the gender of them before you put them in the same cage together. The first hamsters i ever had i was told they could be kept together and were the same gender by someone at a petstore. Well soon enough I found out they were infact not the same gender. A few weeks later i had 9 hamster babies!
if they are young yes, but when they mature they are very agresive with there territory.
if you dont want to see a very ugly and deadly fight dont have two together.
They're okay in groups in the store when they're very young, often because they're in litters. If you buy two from the same litter at the same time, and never separate them, they MIGHT be okay, then again, the whole move might stress them out and they could fight. Often they will fight to the death and it's ugly and gross. I'd plan on separate cages.

I had a similar problem with male rabbits. Adopted two from the same litter, they were fine. Added a third from the same litter a week later, they all began to fight, took the new guy away, and the originals kept fighting, had to build a new cage.
pet store is rite! that's a very bad thing to put to together, and by some1 elses coment about the pet store cages, they go threw almost 5 a month from them killing each other. plus they usually have them at a young age when they aren't as bad about terratory. just buy one hamster give it toys and get it out every once in a while. u only need one it'll be fine.
First of it it HAMSTER not hampster. Yes its ok if youve got Dwarf Hamsters. ITs best not to put (any kind of breed) males together. But a male and female Dwarf will do fine, and 2 females also. Dont worrie about them, just watch and make sure there not fighting. Good Luck!
I had two syrian hamsters in one cage. They were fine most of the time, but the females are much more territorial than the males. I had a male and a female (in hopes that they would breed.) Because they were in the same cage, they did fight, and they did not breed. I connected two cages, and the female stayed on her end and the male his. They were fine like this, and are still living happily ever after :)

Two hamsters of the same sex will fight. A male and a female will get along but they would have babies and most people do not want that. For this reason, hamsters are best kept singly. When I was a child, I had two hamsters and we did not know this. The one hamster lost an eye fighting with his buddy.
if they're already living with other hamsters and introduced to their new cages at the same time there shouldn't be a problem.
I had hamsters and gerbils in the past and always had two at a time.
Young hamsters can live together, but once they mature they become very territorial. If you have a lot of mature hamsters confined to a single enclosure, you're going to have a hideous surprise one morning. It's not unusual for them to kill and sometimes even cannibalize one another.
To at least some degree, it depends on the temperment and type of hamster. Dwarf hamsters are very social animals and do better if they do not live alone, but it's not a good idea to introduce 'strangers' into a cage where one or more has been living for quite some time. Brothers are fine together.
if they are from the same litter.
