Do any of you know that the grass Fescue will kill a horse?

Answers:
Kentucky 31 is the problem and has been for years yes i have heard of this. In the '80s it was brought to a lot of mid west farmers to seed their crp. during the hardships when they were allowed to hay these crp seeded with this a lot of livestock got the toxins.
wel just feeding them grass stright up will make them sick. they are not rumens and therefore need protein in the diet in order to get protien into muscles and such. did the horse die from bloat or starvation?
Wow thanks for the info, we are in the process of getting ready to reseed all of our pastures and someone had told my husband to put in some fescue as it would thicken up the pasture glad I read this before we did it.
fescue will not kill a horse, the only thing fescue affects is mares in there last trimester, in this case, eating enough and it only being a field full of fescue can cause the mare not to produce milk, get your facts straight before you start running off rumors and freaking people out
