disadvantages of zoo?

like animals don't have freedom.
Answers:
Many animals don't have 'freedom' anyway, but a defined territory. The best zoos work with this, and give them the kind of space, equipemtn and privacy that they would have in the wild. Possibly the best-run zoo from this point of view is the Jersey Zoo, started by Gerald Durrell. Take a look here: http://www.jerseyzoo.co.uk/

But yes, some others are basically ill-run animal dungeons, run to make money and keep ignorant people entertained, whatever the cost to the miserable inhabitants.
Yeah, but at least they have a safe home where they are cared for.
Disadvantage is that they have been taken away from their natural habitat. On the other hand -- many of us would never see some animals if not for the Zoo. As long as they aren't kept in cages and have as natural exhibit area as possible and aren't mistreated -- great!
Zoo animals are bored and lazy. Unhappy. Some zoos work to create conditions found in the wild, or create activities to reduse boredom. Zoos are not all abd though.
it gives us a chance to see many animals we'd never see otherwise. also many of our zoos have a conservation program that has kept many animals from becoming extinct. is an animal better off in a zoo or in its natural habitat where it faces danger from its natural enemies and the danger of man shooting it?
it is good they need care
Some animals are there because they cannot live in the wild- and have been injured or ill- others to may be endangered and are there to increase the population- it is sad to see any animal abused or neglected and there are laws against that-or caged up when the should be in the wild=some are used for therapy for handicapped children and do a lot of good- D
no freedom, but they eat good!
There are two sides to this story.
But, aniamals have safe homes, without the chance of being killed. Zoo's kinda help out animals because since poachers or whatever they are come and kill thousands of elephants, lions, cheetas they are going to all die and the zoo protects them.
As long as the ZOO does not abuse, mistreat, or anything like that to the animal I'm ok with it.
Everybody lives in captivity. What's your concern?

Zoo's treat their animals like royality, at least in America they do as enforced by the government and the accredited American Zoo and Aquarium Association (www.aza.org). They are fed restaurant quality foods and have plenty of activities to fill their day. The basic white and blue collar workers of America are treated with less respect than a common zoo animal. I'm not complaining, since humans need and thrive on the structure, but don't assume animals in captivity are suffering because they are fed on time, every time in lush, safe habitats.

If only we could be so lucky for ourselves.
