I did
Answers:
yea except they died right away
no!! but my best friend did!
At the pet store, they sell them with deorative shells and little houses now. They have little race tracks, and a hammock.( I doubt they'd use such things)
hahha yea!! most boring thing ever
yes, until i cracked his bones and ate his meat!
I did, he was named Mr. Crabs (I know, I'm so original, lol).but then my Electric Blue Crawfish ate him.it really pissed me off! :o(
Yes I did. Herman lived one year. He was pretty cool. He changed shells about 4 times.
i had it for a week..a friend of mine gave it to me cuz she didnt want it. it smelt so bad.i let it go after that
im never having one of those ever again
what would be the point they dont do sh-t
I've not had one, but I've heard from owners that they're curious creatures. They're not the most exciting as pets go, but they're fun to watch shed as they change shells and they're pretty easy to clean up after. Many people I know use a 10 gallon tank and have a small part of the tank sectioned off with guppies in it. They made their tank look more like a miniature exhibit at a zoo :-)
I would love to, since there are so many different shells, and they are easy to care for.
I did have several of them. They are kinda smelly. Their cage gets a musty odor because they like to be misted with water. They pinch when handled and the large ones really hurt. But if you just want something interesting to look at with minimal care they're OK. They just aren't much of a pet to handle and interact with.
no but it would probably be cool
I did! I had one named Donut and it died like 2 days after I got it and then we have another one named Speedy and he is huge!!
yea i had like 3 of them
I have 6! I got them thinking they where easy pets, until I read about proper care and stuff! They are doing fine, switching shells, eating, molting and climbing. Plus my kids love them!!
nope but i want 1
Yes, I currently have 3 hermies. They are fun to watch(if you can stay up late enough), but they take alot of care. Mine haven't pinched me yet, and I hope they won't for awhile
my sis did. and it stunk when all 4 of them died. not only the crying but the stink!.
Yes we currently have 54 of them!
The only ones I ever had were ones I caught myself and they didn't last very long. Let me just say, dead hermit crabs smell really, really, really bad.
Yeah, me and my brother do, we have 2.
Yes, we have had hermit crabs for over 2 years. We currently have 60.
Sabrina
I had one for several years I enjoyed it.

did you ever have a hamster, how long did it live?
Answers:
I believe their average life span is about 2 years. I just got mine about 9 months ago, so can't say for sure.
i had one but idk how long it lived because i had to give it away.
it depends on which breed. Dwarf Hamsters live up to 3 years. and Syrian Hamsters they can live a bit longer than Dwarfs.
i had 2, both didn't live over a year.
for both, i played with it everyday, and fed it, gave food everyday, and even washed its cage every week. i trained it so it won't bite me too. but then, one day (like 6 months after i got him) it won't eat anything, so i gave him his fav. food, but again, it won't eat it, so next day, i go to school, come back and find it dead. (that was in japan)
the other one, i had in singapore, like 2 years later, i took care of him the exact same way(fed, cleaned, ect. ) and sometimes i might leave the cage open, but it won't run away, so then like, 7 months after i got him, he ran away, and a week after he ran away, i found him dead down stairs. i also found a dead moth half eaten.
anyway, i got the type of hamsters that will live like, 2 years max. so, i wan't so suprized when it died, but it still was shoking and sad.
yes i did (when i was alot younger)and ernie lived to be 7 yrs old!! very old for a hamster.and my other fluffy lived to be about 3 or 4 yrs old about average .i managed/worked at a pet shop for several yr and i learned from customers and breeders that 3-5 yrs is normal.well i hope i helped some
two weeks before my sister fed it to my pet snake
it mostly depends on the hamster but a hamster can mostly live between 2-4 years mines lived almost to 5 but it died of old age it depends also on how you take care of it
Mine actually lived for three years until we moved to a different location it was way different environment for him.
Yes, mine lived to be a ripe old age of four!!
i had alot of hamsters when i was growing up and none of them lived pass 2 months haha i guess im not really a good owner
I have had many Hamsters, and I work in a pet store so I know a bit about them Their life span if healthy is generaly 3-5 years.
I had a hamster that lived to two and a half! But he slept all the time he only woke up for food, water, to be cleaned out or go to the toilet. He was lazy.
A typical hamsters life expectancy is usually about 2 years. Mine lived for four 1/2 years. I ended up having her put to sleep because she eventually went blind, lost all her teeth, had a stroke so she lost mobility of the left side of her body and when she was able to get up and walk around she would have a seizure and collapse, rather sad. When the vet euthanized her I cried so hard they didn't charge me.
did you ever get sprayed by a skunk?
Answers:
I never did, but once my dad was hurrying out to work on night shift, and it wasn't until the moment he'd opened his car door and was just about to get in that he noticed a skunk beside him on the driveway, so it sprayed him -- and INTO his new car!!
Funny, these 40 years later, one of my favorite stories
no but im sure it would be disgusting!!
no, have you?
yeah it is very painful from the stink, have u?
Missed that experience
nope
no , but I am sure it would be an unforgettable experience.
No but I know people and pets that have. Bath with tomatoe juice and rinse real well.
i've been around one that had just sprayed. very very horrible smell.
No, but my auntie's dog was sprayed one night, then ran in the doggie door, jumped on my bed and starting rolling and rubbing the stink off on me. Does that count?
I thought I was gonna die. The stink actually made me completely sick and gave me a headache. The smell lasted days too.
I HATE nature. :)
EDIT
There are actually people who like the smell and wish it could be perfume. Doctors say it is a misfire in their brains. Yeah, you think?
Phew! Hope I never do!
One summer our dog got sprayed THREE times. It was awful, and she was so unhappy. Tomato juice works, but have you ever seen what a sad, smelly PINK dog looks like. We finally found a professional product which is designed to kill the worst odors in kennels and so on. We bathed her is a dilute solution of that, and could tolerate her in the house again.
No, but my wife is a wildlife rehabber and got sprayed by 4 at once while giving them a bath. Thank the Gods that she knows the formula to get rid of the smell (NOT tomato juice).
OHHHHH Yeah. Lovely experience. Love the tomato juice bath, I felt like a big bowl of veggy soup. No joke it happen.
When I do educational programs, this is by FAR my favorite question that I am asked. Up until last year, I could have said no, but that status has since changed. I was out doing a rescue on 10 baby skunks whose mother was killed by a car. While collecting them, I startled three which all sprayed me. Thank goodness that they were just babies and didn't spray as much as an adult would have.but let me tell you.the stuff BURNS when it comes into contact with skin! I can understand why dogs cry so much when it happens to them. White vinegar takes the smell out so much better than tomato juice.

Did my rabbit bite me?
My rabbit only bites me when I'm not looking!?
When I was not looking once I felt a sensation on my hand while my bunny was there and i don't know if it was a bite. Then one time. I was sleeping and let her hop around my bed and I felt something that hurt on my cheek then I opened my eyes and my rabbit was there. Was this a bite? she nudges my feet too- does she do this to get attention?
Answers:
Sounds like you have a happy bunny that loves you and wants your attention.
Our bunnies bite us for a couple of reasons: one - they have presented for petting (head down) and we ignored them, so a soft nip is in order. Two - they nudged us for petting and we ignored them. Three - they are grooming us and find a little spot that needs more grooming, so they bite it off.
maybe ure rabbit wants to PLAY w/ you
she pinched you to see if you were awake
Yes. I used to play 'tag' with my rabbit when I was a kid. It would nibble at me, then I would pat it on the sides and run away. It would chase me and nibble again.. soon it learned to run away too!
Lot's of fun!
Yup, she nipped you, and they do it to get attention. They also think it is a rather neat trick. My Snuggles will sneak up behind me when I am stooping to clean the litter boxes and nip my butt. Not hard, just a little nip, and then she sits there, and I swear she is laughing. You can read it in their eyes.
do U have orange hair ?
Could be a sign that the rabbit wants attention or to be played with.
Yes, rabbits bite. You will no if she doesn't like you.
Yes
yep. she wants attention. my Ester Bun bit me the other day and i think it's because we have a new puppy and Ester hasn't been getting her usual allotment of play and pets. jealous bunny.

Did i do the right thing?
My grandmother's hampster was trapped in a fan and was making this awful sound so I turned the fan on high to get it out of its misery.did i do the right thing?

Oh, come on now. Why do people make up stupid questions like this?
no. that was sad. you should've open it and take it to vet. poor thing.you probably could've saved his life if you done that.
i don't know..did it die??
That just painted a terrible picture in my mind! Eww. Couldn't you have just taken the hampster out? Most fans can be taken apart by just a few screws, unless of course you're not talking about a little fan you can by at Wal-Mart.
mmmmmmmmm! I have no words to say!
How did the hamster get into the fan in the first place? And if it was in the fan you could have turned the fan off, and undid the cover over the blades.instead of killing it..that's just cruelty
I think PETA should have your email address.
Sounds like your one sick puppy
well i'd have to say thats no good at all.
God help catie, no, that was definitely wrong!
poor thing
If you felt it was the right thing, don't punish yourself. I would have simply cut the fan off and tried to get the hampster out. Just let it go. It is over and done with.
No. You should have turned the fan off and tryed to save it, That was a cruel thing you did.
Omg that was horrible. You shouldn't have done that!!
Ha aren't we bored in first block!

no they still use the hoofs for glue and the meat goes to zoos and to make dog food

No, the senate and house voted to let it continue.
Yes, they're working on it. Very important stuff for Congress to waste time..I mean, SPEND time..on. Much more important that the energy crisis, or Social Security crisis, or illegal immigration, or..heaven forbid..campaign finance reform or a real working definition of UNETHICAL BEHAVIOR
IT BETTER BE!
The only kill trucks I know of go to Canada. I've rescued a couple of horses off of them. I also have a friend that buys from them and finds the horses homes.
Horse slaughtering isnt completely banned throughout the whole U.S. i get the magazine Equus and they had articles in there that people are fighting with the government to get rid of horse slaughtering plants. They are having a hard time with fighting the government, but i support the people that a fighting to rid of them!
They are trying.
The bill passed the House (i think) but still has yet to pass in the
Senate. And it must pass before the end of the year or else
it will be dropped.
The American Horse Slaughter Prevention Act will end the slaughter of horses for human consumption and the domestic and international transport of live horses or horseflesh for human consumption.
Last year alone 91,757 horses were slaughtered in one of the three foreign-owned, US-based horse slaughtering facilities located in Texas and Illinois.
H.R. 503, The American Horse Slaughter Prevention Act has been reintroduced in the US House by Congressman John Sweeney (R-NY), Co-chair of the Congressional Horse Caucus, Congressman John Spratt, Jr. (D-SC) and Congressman Ed Whitfield (R-KY). In the Senate. S. 1915 has been reintroduced by Senator and veterinarian John Ensign (R-NV) and Senator Mary Landrieu (D-LA). Last year in the House 228 bipartisan Members of Congress cosponsored the bill, lets reach that number again.
what is the big deal?we slaughter beef, pork, sheep, chickens etc.horses are just another animal.
No they haven't. I work at a rescue, and I hear of many nasty things from people who run horse sanctuaries in England. I don't want to go into detail of how and where they do it, as I will probably be banned from this place.
But no they haven't, and they probably won't. Not until the government sorts its priorities out, anyway.
They did for a while but then thay brought it back. how stupid huh?
It is 1/2 way there. it must pass the Senate and the President has already stated if it gets to him he will support the ban.
As per dog food and glue , that hasnt been done in over 12 yrs.
The big deal is, Horses are more of a companion animal than a cow, pig or chicken and our heritage has taught us to respect them, other countries have not. If the other countries want to eat horsemeat raise their OWN, like we do our cattle.
The horses that go to slaughter are not the unwanted, aged , no good horses, that is a bunch of crap. Most horses that go to slaughter are AQHA bred, then the TB ,then the other breeds. Of course this is why AQHA doesnt want it to pass as so many of their uppity breeders have no problem sending their culls to slaughter. In which to me is absolutly wrong. the breeders make the decision to put theses horses on the earth, it is their responsiblilty to find them good homes and care for them or put them down humanly when the time is necessary. that is called responsibility.
i agree with earl

U.S House Passes Permanent Horse Slaughter Ban
September 7, 2006
Nearly 100,000 horses are
slaughtered annually for foreign palates.
In a key victory for protecting American horses from slaughter, the U.S. House of Representatives passed H.R. 503, the American Horse Slaughter Prevention Act, by a vote of 263 to 146 on Sept. 7.
Passage of the bill marks a historic moment in a groundswell effort to ban the slaughter of American horses for human consumption abroad. More than 20,000 individuals told The HSUS that they called their representatives in the days leading up to the vote, urging their support of the bill. The callers added their voices to more than 500 organizations and editorial boards across the nation that have been calling for an end to the practice.
Take Action!
Tell the Senate to charge ahead and ban horse slaughter.
The legislation, which enjoyed more than 200 cosponsors and bipartisan support, was designed to stop the slaughter of nearly 100,000 American horses annually in three foreign-owned slaughter plants in the United States. Their meat is shipped overseas, primarily to France, Belgium and Japan, where it is considered a delicacy.
"What we are exposing today is a brutal, shadowy, shameful practice," said Rep. John Sweeney (R-NY), who introduced the bill along with Reps. Ed Whitfield (R-KY), John Spratt (D-SC) and Nick Rahall (D-WV).
In the days leading up to the vote, the opposition stepped up efforts to defend the slaughter industry, but two amendments that would have gutted the bill were defeated in votes (Goodlatte Amendment | King Amendment), and the day went to horses, lauded as an icon and symbol of American heritage.
"The horse is tied to the spirit of the American frontier," Rep. Whitfield told the house in debate. "Most importantly, the horse is a companion."
With the majority of Americans and the U.S. House of Representatives on the record supporting a permanent ban on horse slaughter, the Senate will now take up the bill for consideration.
“Horse slaughter is simply indefensible, and polls show that the vast majority of Americans agree,” HSUS President and CEO Wayne Pacelle said. “As we build on today’s successful vote and take the debate to the Senate, we urge humane-minded citizens to call and write their senators and get this legislation passed once and for all.”

did dragons really existed?
Answers:
Whether or not proof is ever found, I choose to imagine that they did.
There is no proof that they did.
They are still finding the remains of animals in China that they think might have been the story behind dragons but as of right now no there is no proof..
As of yet I dont believe there is actual proof that they did but I believe they did
they come out alot in farytales and all and farytales aren't the truth so i think they didn't exist
i wish they did.
Yes, and so did hobbits, goblins, dwarves, elves and wizards.
lol sure
I've heard that different types of lizards and dinosaurs are a species of dragons.
Yeah.this may sound a little crazy everyone, but dragons were actually dinosaurs that lived with man. When we hear the word "Dragon" we always picture some sort of fire, breathing, talking, creature, who flys around burning people to death. But, "dragon", is just another name for dinosaur.
There's plenty of evidence out there, that man did in fact live with Dinos , even in the last 10 centuries centuries. Evolutionists will never admit that dinos actually walked with man, because it will make Darwins theory look even more foolish, than it already is.
Thumbs Down Please :O)
There are actually "flying" (gliding really) lizards, which is most likely where some of the myths of dragons come from.
There is no evidence that they can breath fire though.
kamodo dragons. look it up deary
They still exist to this day. I mean come on, ask a real question.
Did anyone watch 'meerkat manor" ?
im so worried about little shakespeare, he was such a good meerkat, looking after his little brother etc. If u filmed these sort of programmes would u be able to stop urself from intervening?
Answers:
I personally think that I wouldn't be able to stop myself from helping the poor things. I live in South-Africa and I love nature, so when I get the opportunity to spend time in the wild I can't stand seeing animals suffering. Like when a lion is hunting sick or old animals, I always cry, but I can't do anything about it. So atleast u'r not alone. I don't watch meerkat manor a lot, but when I do, I split myself laughing, they're the cutest little things
I watched it too and I'm not feeling too confident about poor little shakespeare's fate after the snake bite. Only the next episode will tell how the brave little fella coped.

We love Shakespeare and hope he's ok. Tough little meerkat!!
Yes I watch it. It would be hard to stop myself from interfering, but they are wild creatures and must be left alone if your going to get the information you need to help the whole species in the long run. Shakespeare is a tough little meerkat recovered from the snake bite, etc. He will make it.

Only the next episode will tell how the brave little fella coped.

did anyone read that steve irwin died?
the crocidile hunter died from a stingray

It is very sad, as he taught us so much about the animal world. He had a wife and two small children. He was such a daredevil! I know I will miss him..
yeah, I heard the same thing. sad :(
yes, i feel so shocked when i hear he is death
so sad
Yes, the news of his untimely demise is all over the Internet and TV networks worldwide.
yes.. that happened hours ago. it is old news..please move on with your withering exoskeleton of a life. people die. do you realize that we are just floating in space and that one dude's death isn't the end all or start of anything significant.. we are just animated gelatnous dirt and we are here for a miniscule amount of time. make sense?. cream of pampers soup. get over it
Really? I honestly did not know that.
/sarcasm
Yes, I 've heard.
sniffles! why don't you move on too. you don't have to answer the questions criticizing them .You must be very busy respondidng to all the same question. Good luck! and get over it!
Just ignore the rude answers. My son got stung by a stingray on his foot. It's extremely painful but not usually life-threatening. And I know of a lot of other people who got stung, but on the foot or leg. I read, however, that he got stung on the chest so it probably affected his heart. How sad!
yeah i have read that in associated press he was out in the great barrier reef.
This is the first I heard of it. No jokes either.
I read this question and I immediately thought, "this just can't be true!" This news is so sad! What a hero he is/was to all of us who love and respect wildlife. He was fearless, but so loving and tender with his children, wife, friends and animals. I thought he was invincible. Crikey..I am going to miss him just like he was my own family member! I don't know..it's hard to believe and I feel like I am in shock. :(

Did anyone have a family pet that liked to stare while they had sex?
My cat used to really creep me out. She even got into the act by nibbling on my husband's toes.

I've 8 cats and dog so yes, I'm quite familiar with 'The Watchers'. At first it was a little freaky but eventually you simply stop noticing.right up to the point when a cat jumps up and disrupts the action! Then it's time to close the door, get off the dining room table or simply get up off the floor (hey, I like a little variety) The dogs nose can certainly cause coitus interuptus as well, nothing like a cold, wet and snuffling nose crammed up your backside at an inopportune moment. Maybe it's due to them all being fixed and thus jealous of what they're missing though most likely it's simple curiosity or just politely waiting for there turn to play with their owners. Either way it's just a fact of having pets and an active sex life so enjoy.but separately as some things are just not to be shared.
Why is this in the Pets catagory? And NO!

lol, i know what u mean, pets can be like that sometimes, but i have a dog and when ever i am getting dressed she always looks away, like its a bad thing i am getting dressed in front of her and she gives me an odd look

deworming a horse?
if u deworm ur horse with expired dewormer could it hurt them? or would it even work?
i havn't used it yet but i bought it from a lady and it expired 2 years ago. what should i do?
Answers:
throw it away!! don't let ur horse touch that! not only will it not kill any worms that could be in there but it could also make worms. thats part of the way they get worms in the first place eating something that is bad for them. don't force him to eat something that will not help him.
return it.
it won`t work.
toss it out and buy good dewormer.
dewormer has a shelf life and after it has expired it is not as afective, if it has gone that long it will no longer do any good.
rember to deworm your horse every 3 months, I use the first of the year, tax day, 4th of july and labor day to rember worming days.
jeffers has good wormers and are not expensive.
No no no no! throw it away, return it, get rid of it. Not only could it seriously harm your horse, but it won't deworm your horse. It would be just like giving him a nasty tasting paste for no reason. Go to your local tack/ feed store and get a new tube that hasn't expired.
Hello it may be wise not to use the wormer as the chemicals designed to do the job may be inactive and the chemical carrier may have a nasty reaction on your horse.
I would return the wormer to the seller and purchase another wormer in date for your peice of mind and your horses health.
Best wishes to you .
Well what do you think your horse would say?
Don't use it, That's why theres an expiration date on it. I would take it back and get a refund. Use the money to buy fresh wormer.
Don't use it.. replace it
it upsets me that animal owners actually have to ASK these questions - return it and if you dont get an exchange, buy a new one. Worming is one of the most important things you can do for your horse and certainly you shouldnt scrimp on a good worm dose to save money - buy a new one and worm your horse regularly.
get fresh wormer the things that are in the wormer can dissapate after a certain period of time and they would no longer be active dont use anything more than a few days past the expired date.and always keep it out of the sun in a cool dry place

Desperater For Help!!?
I am desperate for a horse, and my parents won't get me one!! I get good grades, get first in horse shows(I rent horses for shows), and I am to young for a job. Looking for any advice!! I AM DESPERATE FOR A HORSE!!
Answers:
What is this, the fifth time you've posted this same thing? If you don't have a horse it's probably either due to money issues or because your parents don't think you're responsible enough. One thing you can change, another you can't. You're lucky that you can borrow horses for shows, a lot of people don't get that. Now take the advice from before and try applying it, there's not much left to say. There are plenty of people that have to wait until they are in their 20s or 30s before they get their first horses.
Horses are a lot of responsibility its not just about winning shows. Show them you are responsible enough to have a horse. Who knows christmas is coming up!

designer Puppies..?
Ok so this kinda makes me mad. How can people still sell peekapoos %26 jackapoos jackapugs all those MIXED breeds as "designer puppies" ? years a go they were considered mutts %26 given away for free. Most of these dogs are being sold for the price of a pure bred %26 MOST are Probably accidents. Yet people still buy them for $400-$800 WHY!? Go to the pound %26 adopt a poor mutt who really needs a good home. Instead of paying crazy amount of money.
I was just curious as to why people try to rip people off by selling them as desingers %26 why do people even pay that much for them?
Answers:
I don't know why anyone would get these kinds of dogs when there are dogs in the shelters that are perfectly good dogs and they are put to sleep everyday. I got my dog from the shelter she might not be the prettiest dog but she is a really good dog.
My friend bought a puggle for 500 bucks and I thought he was crazy. Puggle is mix pug and beagle.
I would never buy a designer or purebred dog when I know lots of perfectly fine dogs are being put down in shelters. I agree with you that its a rip off.
coz they're rare..
people like to go with the fads.
with the whole poodles mix thing- they have a special hair as opposed to fur. People are not allergic to it. When they mix the poodle they get dogs that people aren't allergic to that don't look like poodles. So its nice for people who want to own dogs but are allergic.
They are not rare. It's just some gimick. Just like the Digitalized pets when they came out. Everyone just wanted one because "it was the in thing" to do.
It also comes down to the "supply and demand" thing. If there's a huge demand and short supply, people figure they can make money off of mutts. Once there's no demand, I don't see them selling for that much. They will be considered regular mutts (not like there's anything wrong with mutts, trust me).
I think it's sick. I have a BFM myself. (BFM=beloved family mutt).
Mutts rule!

IT IS JUST WRONG!!
the world is filled with 'wierd' people, and we find it ridiclous that it happens!
it's sad to see that there are many unwanted animals in the shelters that nobody wants, yet the sale of pets are generally increasing.
i guess, its because, if its free (when you adopt them from shelters), the pets have no value. but if you fork out your own money to buy the pet, it's priceless.
on a personal note, i just adopted a ckcs (king charles spaniel). guess what? the previous owner discarded it to me immediately (when i express my interest to adopt her). why? because, someone gave it to her as a gift. so, to her, this dog has no value (altho' its a purebreed). i adopted her because, i heard from another friend that this poor dog was caged 24/7 in the house! the previous owner had wanted to 'throw her out to the streets' if she can't find someone to adopt her soon.
i can never forget how yoyo came into my life.her previous owner just dump me her cage, cheap food %26 leftover shampoo to me without looking back @ yoyo.can you imagine that!?
right now, yoyo is a happy, naughty %26 active pooch! however, she's a 'stubborn' pooch to train (due to her traumatic past), but she is definately sweet- natured.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gwpksp4gx.
People try to sell them and rip people off beacause they just can. As long as there are stupid, uneducated pet owners/prospective pet owners out there, people will continue to breed these "mutts" and sell them for way more than what they should be sold for.
They are not rare, and I have seen so many "doodles" in the shelters who have been dumped because they SHED and they owner was ALLERGIC. I'm a groomer, believe me, Doodle breeds DO shed.
I have often wondered, that if the shelters would make up come cutesy name for every mixed breed in there, and put the word rare on the info card, if more people would go to the shelters to get a dog??
I noticed that most people on her rant about the designer puppies
%26lt;---This is mine. Her name is Cashew and she is a Pug/Shar Pei mix.
Guess what I didn't pay an arm and leg for her, I found her on petfinder.com and adopted her. But now with her in our lives I would be willing to pay anything for her. She is really sweet and so gentle with my 10 month old daughter.
People are going to buy dogs, designer or not, regardless what people think. What matters is that they are being loved and taken care of.

Degu babies,what to do!?
My degus just had babies today and I am so happy ,but scared too.I have NO idea what to do,how to feed them, when to feed them ,and what to feed them.Help me and I will give you a best answer.
Answers:
my sister used to have a pair of degu babies, and if they were just born, they will feed from their mother for a little while, but after that, normal degu food will be perfectly fine for them. just make sure that you do have some softer foods like oats for them so they will have an easier time switching to harder foods
Congratulations! I have three degus though none have had babies. I have many rats and they have had loads of babies! I think the bests thing you can do is leave them to it for the first couple of weeks. The parents won't thank you for interfering. If you touch the babies the mother will be hypersensitive to the new smell on them. As they begin to grow put extra food in. A good mother will feed them with this and teach them how to feed. Once they are of reasonable size, you can begin to stroke them. Don't take them out of the cage the mother will be anxious until they are a bit bigger. When you clean the cage try as much as you can not to disturb them too much.
Substitution for mother's milk
Sometimes this sad thing happens, that female dies after delivery and babies survive, but only for couple hours if you won't help them. Then it's very important, what you feed the babies in exchange for mother's milk, because mother's milk has many necessary components which babies need.
It's not usually good to put babies to another female who just have babies because it's not safe for the babies. So there is only one way - to feed babies by some milk formula.
There are more formulas for feeding babies, I have for you couple of successful from people who successfully fed babies and they grow to healthy degus:
1. It's recommended to feed with the dropper and substitute the milk with evaporated milk with few drops of carrot juice, diluted with the infusion from oatmeal (2:1 ratio). Feed every two hours (at night too) and you mustn't forget light massage of the belly and the rectum. Source: Czech pages of Ivo Slavik
2. Mixture for feeding babies can be made of evaporated milk mixed with camomile tea (1:2). Once a day add little honey (contains energy) and you can also add little oatmeal water. You can made more of this mixture and keep in in the fridge, before feeding just warm little of this to the body temperature. Use eyedropper for feeding (in syringe there is too big pressure and it's hard for such gentle use) or soak a piece of cotton wool in this milk and let babies suck it. Feed babies every 2-3 hours in the beginning (at night too) and lenghten the intervals slowly as babies start to eat solid food. After feeding, rub babies' belly gently with tissue (wetted by warm water) to help digestion and rub also rectum surroundings (they can't relieve themselves without this). And occasionally wash baby with warm water (by which you replace the tongue of the female).
3. Another possibility is to feed babies dog formula. It's alreay premade and relatively cheep so it may be easier. Feed it for about 3 weeks from birth, every 2-3 hours.
Except feeding it's very important to keep babies in warm, they could die of undercooling. It would be good idea for example to place cage (or bowl, you can keep babies also in soft nest from tissues just in bowl) with babies onto the heating (of course not too hot). If you have some more degus, lik father of babies, you can let babies with them except feeding, they'll take care of them and warm them, although not that good as mother would do.

deck the stalls?
we are doing deck the stalls at the barn we board our horses at but our horses wont be there at that time so we are helping our friend who wats 2 do a princess theme. The horse is a red roan mare and she will have a tiara do you have any ideas on how 2 decorate the stall as a castle and the horse a princess
Answers:
you can use chalk or whitewash to draw fake stones on the outside of the stall to make it look like castle walls, use cone-shaped cardboard cutouts at the tops of any posts to make them look like towers, use little white christmas lights around the very tops of the "walls"-make sure horse cannot lick wires or otherwise get electrocuted, though-
drape the horse in a royal purple covering and gild her hooves silver or gold with polish. you can spray-paint an old halter with gold or chrome color to spiff her up, and don't forget to braid her mane in tiny ribboned braids, and tie them off with trailing ribbons, beads, etc. Do her tail too.
you could also decorate her "robe" with glitter paints and fake jewels to make it look like she's wearing a fantastic jeweled necklace. you can make ankle bracelets for her with beads, bells and bangles. have fun!

the tiara will certainly make her a princess. take some cardboard and make triangles for tower tops and put them on top od the corner stall posts and dig a trench around the stall for a moat.
Put a fake castle door (the door that goes across the moat on a real castle) on the stall door.
PINK! Pink ribbons also help to. pink hairspray works really well. If you could get her a pink blanket too, that would help.
Answers:
you can use chalk or whitewash to draw fake stones on the outside of the stall to make it look like castle walls, use cone-shaped cardboard cutouts at the tops of any posts to make them look like towers, use little white christmas lights around the very tops of the "walls"-make sure horse cannot lick wires or otherwise get electrocuted, though-
drape the horse in a royal purple covering and gild her hooves silver or gold with polish. you can spray-paint an old halter with gold or chrome color to spiff her up, and don't forget to braid her mane in tiny ribboned braids, and tie them off with trailing ribbons, beads, etc. Do her tail too.

Death rays in Australia?
some rays was find deaths in the coasts of Australia, the strange was, that all these rays had no tails, do you suspect that was did for the Steven Irwing fans?
note, sorry for my english
Answers:
Whoever did this could not be a fan of Steve Irwins. Because killings those rays goes against everything he stood for.
what in the name of all that is holy are you talking about?
Don't know. But S.I was an entertainer and his fans miss his entertaining them, guess they're bored and don't know what to do with themselves
What? You think maybe some radical Steve Irwin fans are out killing sting rays and removing their tails? That's funny
I think it perhaps was because of the death of Steve Irwin. People are seeking revenge on the rays. It's a shame, the death of the type of animal that accidentally killed him will not bring him back.
They are not Steve Erwin fans. I do not believe he would approve of such a cruel act. He knew what he was getting into when he got into that profession. I don't know why everyone is shocked. And yes I loved his show.
They are working against everything he fought for.
I guess since elephants turn on their trainers are we going to go kill them to.
Or how about chimps and other animals.
They are being stupid. I hope they are caught and thrown in jail.
Yes, I think some people could be taking their sadness and anger over his death out on the sting rays. Sometimes people do wrong things out of grief, because they dont know what else to do.
It would be a sad thing if his fans did that because Steve Irwin was one of the most notable animal rights and animal preseveration spokesman. He knew the risks he took every time he got close to a wild animal and never wanted any thing bad to happen to the animals, even when they drew blood. I believe his passing was a tragedy to the future of wildlife, because he fought
so hard to educate people and preserve it.
Ironically, it was an animal that isn't aggressive, who killed Steve Irwin, an animal that only has a DEFENSE mechanism, the stinger, and that mechanism is not used for any thing else. I feel the sting rays will carry a bad rep for a long while.. Its sad.
I know Steve would be a little pissed off right now it he knew thats what was happening to the Sting rays.
Whoever is doing this is either looking for attention, or really think stingrays are harmful (which they are, only if they are threatened).
If Steve Irwin taught this world anything, it's that we should be compassionate to every animal. Including stingrays.he would NOT have wanted this!
if u cant speak * english then dont ask a question!!~!
Yeah it's because of that and I think that everyone should stop mistreating animals like that just because he died. Steven Irwin would be devistated if he could see what people are doing to them and may I remind everyone that it was A FREAK ACCIDENT!!.

Dead gerbil?
My baby gerbil died about 3 weeks ago. I really loved him, and I just can't bear to burry him. But now he's all rotten and my house stinks. What should I do?
Answers:
Pull out the crock pot and cook up some gerbil stew. It's great that he is rotting. It will bring the flavor out. Glad to help little missie!
Get or make a little box for him, then bury him. Put up a little marker and say something over his grave. Air out the house and put bowls of vinegar around to dissipate the odor. Decaying matter can be dangerous and cause infection.
Not to be rude but you have to either bury him or flush him down the toilet. That's gross.
ewwww. well you could just burry it. But get rid of any decaying material in your household.
Just barry him, I hope you feel better though. I'M SOOOOOO SORRY!
I had a hampster that died, her name was baby and I really loved her, she would sit on my shoulder and I would take her outside and she would stay on my shoulder and at first there was no lid on her home and when we were gone she would get out and run around and when we got home she would walk right up to us and we would pick her up and put her back in her home. She was such a sweet hampster and when she died, I used a Native American tradition for burying thier dead where you put some clean bedding in a small box and lay the animal on the bedding, you put a small amount of food in there and a couple of gerbil treats and maybe a tiny stuffed toy and bury the box, say a little prayer to the great spirit to help him or her on the journey and if you have your own yard you can put up a little marker. It is a sad thing to lose a pet and I am sorry for your loss but your gerbil has gone to the rainbow bridge and God is taking care of him/her now. Look up the rainbow bridge online and I think it will help you alot. Good luck
when my rabbit died i didn't want to bury her either. the vet told me i could have her cremated,so i could keep her with me. with the gerbil being so small i don't know if that is an option. try it.
I had a dwarf hamster named Sugar that died and I felt really bad. I put her in a plastic bag and kept her on the porch outside. My mom kept telling me to bury it and I just couldn't. Winter came early and the ground froze, so then I couldn't bury her. I kept the baggie out there and she started to decompose and pretty soon, all that was left was some fur and bones. In the spring, I dug up the earth and put her in the ground. I took a flat rock and painted her name on it and put some flowers around the rock.
Put him in a box, And bury him. Its gross to make your house smell!. Do it now!!

Dead deer in my backyard deer removal wants me to drag him to front of my house?
How am I suppose to drag a 200lb buck to the front of my house? Why can't they drag it for me? Maybe I'll just hope for a bear to come along and take him?
Answers:
That is the stupidest thing I have ever heard of. What? The deer should have died in the front yard?
Tell them that you did it and when they get there say "Hey, where did he go? He must have come back to life then dropped dead again in the backyard"! LOL, idiots.
tell them you have a bad back and you can't do it..they'll get over it
have your neighbors help you
you can call animal services, you can usually find the number thru the local police department. i know when we had a raccoon in the yard, they wanted 200 for it if it was injured, but only 50 if it wanst.
Perhaps a nice neighbor will help you. Or if you have enough room, you could always tie it off to the bumper and drag it out that way.
Is the deer in YOUR yard? Then it is your responsibility to move. You're lucky they're picking it up for you at no expense -- some places would charge you an animal disposal fee.
I believe a bear would not take just the buck. Find a way to drag it to the front of your house or bury it right there.
I would tell them that I had a bad back too.
Quarter it, have the head and butt mounted. Much lighter to move.
Tie a rope around it's body. If you put your back and legs into it, you can drag the dead deer for a pretty far distance. Though I can't say it will be easy. It is possible to do it by yourself. But a few neighbors would help.
the earth will dispose of the deer why does an animal have to go in the landfill when its biodegradeable and the critters will eat it so leave it there it will make a habitat and provide food for the shrinking habitat there already is worldwide
Call back to Fish %26 Wildlife and ask who may want the rack and how you can legally get rid of it. Maybe someone, a taxidermist or something, would take it for the rack. Do it quick, dead animals spoil fast.
I bet there are a couple of teenagers around - boys - who would be happy to have the chance to drag a dead deer to the front for you - maybe slip 'em a few bucks (no pun intended!).
Do you have a vehicle that you can drag it with? get a rope or chain around it and attach it to the frame under your vehicle. Not the bumper, the weight might pull it off. Some body's gonna take his Rack, maybe a friend of yours might want it.
Find someone who wants the meat and have them remove it.
Around here, it's mostly about liability. The removal company doesn't really want their employees on other people's property. And driving that big ole truck to the back yard might just leave some ruts, break some limbs, run over a few flowers, all of which often results in an angry homeowner.
I bet if you slip the guys driving the truck a couple of bucks for a tip, they'll drag it for you. Otherwise, you have a couple of other choices, get someone else to help, pull it yourself, or leave it (stinky!).
Occasional dead animals is one of the few drawbacks to living in an area with wildlife.
Their job is to pick the deer up. Just wait for them to come, and show them where it is. If they ask you why you didnt drag it to the front, ask them if you look like the world's strongest man.
No way! Thats thier job to remove it and dispose it. Thats why you called them. They have to do it, it's thier job.

Dangerous flea medicines?
I called my vet the other day and asked what flea medicine I should get for my cats and dog (the dog has a few fleas). They said they would only reccommend Advantix and Advantage (conviniently the only two that you can only get from a vet's office.like the beauty salon claiming that only THEIR shampoo will stop your hair from falling out later in life or whatever.). I asked if I could still use the other three brands on the shelf and was told that Hartz has been linked to many many animal deaths and should absolutely not be used. I looked them up online and the only website that seems to say this are websites like, www.hartzvictims.org, www.animalhelp.com, and www.againsthartz.com. Yet they ALL say that this many lawsuits have been filed, this many news reports have been done on them etc.I am asking.where are all these news reports? I want one reliable news story about Hartz being linked to many deaths.
Answers:
DON'T KNOW IF THESE PRODUCTS YOU MENTIONED ARE LINKED TO DEATHS BUT I CAN TELL YOU FOR CERTAIN THAT THEY DO NOT WORK.
I USE A PRODUCT CALLED REVOLUTION ON MY DOG.IT'S FOR FLEAS, EAR MITES AND HEARTWORM.ONCE A MONTH APPLICATION AND WATERPROOF.
I BUY IT ON LINE AT PETSHED.COM IT WORKS GREAT, BEEN USING IT FOR 3 YEARS AND HAS NO BAD EFFECT ON MY DOG.
I have not heard of any of those things you mentioned as being dangerous to animals.. I do know one thing though.. they are worthless as far as MY USAGE has been concerned.
For flea medicine.. I go ONLY to an animal store(not WAlmart's, etc) but I get ONLY GOOD flea medicine that you mix with water to bath the dog and/or cat in(if the cat does not like water, then a powder) but ONLY from a reputable animal store. I shampoo the dog(with the good flea medicine) on day one and one week later, again(a must to kill the newly hatched larvae of fleas) and at the same time(A MUST MUST MUST) get a sprayer and buy some top notch flea spray. put that into the sprayer and spray ANYPLACE where your pets are sleeping and/or going to include the walls of the house, etc.. YOU DO NOT kill fleas(or get rid of the flea problem) by ONLY giving the dog/cat a bath in flea medicine
Hello Erica H
My sister uses ivory soap to remove the fleas from her cat and it seems to work pretty well. So see if that works and let me know the outcome.
Both of my dogs that I got from a shelter had fleas and one day I had gotten an e-mail from a friend saying that Dawn dish soap works for fleas. I tried it and let me tell you it works wonders and is safe. I know from a few vets I know that the Hartz brand has been sued for brain damage/nerve damage and death from their product. I would try and stick away from all these chemicals. Good Luck!
I would like to see the actual reports for Hartz products, also.but not for prrof that the reactions are real. I know they are. The local vet who cares for our humane society animals has had several animal come in with what turned out being a bad reaction to the Hartz product line. I would like to see the actula data collections so there is something solid to stand on when someone asks me."How do you know?" while offering the info who has already used it on an animal "successfully".
alot of these reports are from multiple pet homes, where there are dogs and cats. the dog flea product can be lethal to cats. and if the labels are read and actually followed by pet owners then most of the claims wouldn't exist. the company's aren't going to publish nor are the going to inform consumers that their product is killing pets. this is what warning labels are for and if someone doesn't follow it, then it's not their fault. this is how they look at it. flea products and other products have always had owner compliance issues. I have worked in the vet field for years, and have explained til I am blue in the face how to use a product only to have the owner apply wrong when they get home and wonder why they still have fleas.
advantage and other flea products like that can be bought outside the vet's office. the only ones that can't be is if they require a prescription like heartworm preventatives ie revolution. however, if you buy this product from someone other than your vet and your pet has a reaction, the company will not back their product with a warrenty. the vet will have to charge you for treatment of the reaction. so in the grand scheme of things, why not keep your local vet in business, after all you do own a pet. do you skimp on your doctor care? why would you want to put your pets health at risk. we are responsible for our pets health as we are the ones that chose to own them.
Advantage, frontline, revolution are all topical products that work within 24 hours of application to kill all adult fleas on contact for 30+days. Honestly, the other OTC products SUCK! if you are having a flea problem you will need to treat your enviroment also.
Also, if a vet reccomended to you to use a product that they don't carry and you are possibly not a client, the legal ramifications of your using the product and having problems with it is HUGE. Just like if you call a dr's office and ask is it ok to take aspirin or tylenol or whatever and they say sure and you die, hello lawsuit.

OMG.
Congratulations - it's a pebble!!
dude give your pet rock's baby to patrick ( spoge bob's friend who lives in a rock ) he will take care of it.
Ground her in her room and let her raise the baby by herself and have to take care of it. That'll teach hear a lesson.
You had all day, and this is the S H 1 T

I think you are over medicated, dear.
lol That's hilarious! A promiscuous rock! Thanks for the smile and the 2 points! :)
film it next time and put it on a web site.
call it ROCKIN S*X videos

cash it on it, its the american way
can you afford this baby rock ? if so be happy for Savannah if not make her have it and then give it up for adoption so some else can give it what it needs.
i think abortion is the only answer here. the world does not need another rock running around.
i think the best thing you should do is see that she gets pebble support from the young stud rock next door then put her on birth control so at least she won't get pregnant again. nothing worse then stepping on a bunch of pebbles lying around the house.
savannah you are on rocky ground, better start behaving

take to a high secrity rock graden and make her live out with the other naughty rocks.
OMG.
Congratulations - it's a pebble!!
dude give your pet rock's baby to patrick ( spoge bob's friend who lives in a rock ) he will take care of it.
Ground her in her room and let her raise the baby by herself and have to take care of it. That'll teach hear a lesson.
You had all day, and this is the S H 1 T
you came up with?
I think you are over medicated, dear.
lol That's hilarious! A promiscuous rock! Thanks for the smile and the 2 points! :)
film it next time and put it on a web site.
call it ROCKIN S*X videos
for sale of course, 19.95
cash it on it, its the american way
can you afford this baby rock ? if so be happy for Savannah if not make her have it and then give it up for adoption so some else can give it what it needs.
i think abortion is the only answer here. the world does not need another rock running around.
i think the best thing you should do is see that she gets pebble support from the young stud rock next door then put her on birth control so at least she won't get pregnant again. nothing worse then stepping on a bunch of pebbles lying around the house.
savannah you are on rocky ground, better start behaving
I %26lt;33 pet rockz
what did u do to it SICKO
congratulations, you can name it Pebble and if it is twins, Gravel too.
enjoy them while they are young, they will be boulders before you know it
what the heck is everyone's deal with asking questions about stupid pet rocks that don't even exist?? damn you guys must be way bored.
lol nice question is this real cause pet rocks don't get pregnet
u have problems. did u take any medication or did the people in the nuthouse let u out again LOL. throw her in the ocean and let her drown.
Daddy Long Legs!!?
Or to be correct a crane fly..there everywhere (United Kingsdom) its driving me mad as i hate the little blighters!
Somebody tell me how to get rid! before i go crazy!!
Answers:
Argh I hate them! They are especially bad if you live in a grassy area!
Keep your windows and doors closed at night as they are attracted to the lights and will fly into your house.
My mum has a great way of getting rid of them without getting to close - she gets the pipe from the hoover and sucks them up!!
Otherwise you can swat them with a newspaper (means getting closer though) or spray them with flyspray.
Just try to remember to shut your doors and windows before you turn your lights on!
Apparently, if you eat 14 of them, word gets round and they leave you alone.
MOVE to A different house
sad
I've noticed that giant moths are every where in the south of England.
but dont know how to get rid of daddy long legs.sorry.
they are harmless, trust me
me my friends did this. put daddy long legs in cup and fill with water then freeze!! it works!!
want to borrow my dog, she goes mental after them, dont last long in our house
Yeah its the time of year, I find they can't resist the dyson.
Also keep the windows closed when the lights are on.
get your boyfriend to capture them well thats what i do strange to think when i was young i used to pull the legs off one by one funny how we change as we age
Here in the US, we call these mosquito eaters.
Daddy Long Legs are a type of spider
just squish squish squish them until they all gone!
Cup them in your hand and throw them outside, close the window or they will come back in for the light.
get a insect spary or one you light
I've a kamakaze 1 in the house the now, it just dive bombed me and i nearly fell off the bloody chair. A BT phone book seems to work.
a daddy long leg in the US is a spider with huge long legs but it is a nice spider. Do not think I'd like the crane fly! Yuk Yuk!
Just let 'em be
They are harmless and just doing what nature intended for them to do.
Put a sign up saying dads with long legs keep out
Catch it and throw it back out of the window then put a do not disturb mat outside so it kows it ain't welcome again
God your a whimp! They way less than a sheet of toilet paper yet reduce adults to a shivering wreck. They are totaly harmless and don't have the facility to bite or sting so what is the problem?
My wife hates them, too. The only solution we've found is to keep the windows closed in the evenings. They're even worse than moths for being attracted to lights. If you can't persuade the rest of your household to do this, then citronella oil or candles (a known midge repellant) might work.
On the other hand, you could learn to love 'em. They eat mosquito larvae, which are a far worse nuisance.
Yep, little buggers are everywhere. I dont mind them, my husband freaks out at them though, so I have to catch them, I just grab them in my hand and throw them out of the door.
You could always just splat them. If they stay still long enough.
Kneecap 'em with a mallet!!
if a daddy long legs bit you u could die because they have poison in them - but dont worry because they do not have teeth and so can not bite
september in the UK is a really bad time for the horrible creatures, theylove light so try and keep yur lights off at night and close your doors and windows!
Nasty things.
They wont harm you just leave them alone!
I know, I have noticed it too. Apparently it is the mating season which is why they are all out and about, they're hoping to pull! Haha!
There is not a lot you can do. Fly spray will knock em dead in a little while. Keep back and front doors shut if you have the light on as they will take it as an invitation to come on in!
Did you know that daddy long legs actually have the deadliest venom in the world? The only reason we don't die is that their lips are so soft that they can't get a grip on our skin to bite us and kill us! Interesting eh!??
i have a totally mad phobia of the damn things i really am very scared of them and they are everywhere an i have never found away to get rid of them. if u can stay in the same room as them flick them with a towel and they fall apart but i cant even get that close!! my 8 yr old girl loves them though she gets them for me her poor wimpy mummy lol if shes in bed hough i have had it i run away to my bed
there everywhere at the moment because its the time of year for hatching. I used to have a real phobia with them but have overcome it.

HI.. well if you live in alarger city you should have an animal control officer or animal cop..
Call a local shelter or pound and ask them for a number if you cant find it.
In a smaller area.. call a local shelter and ask them who they wouldhave you call.
Describe the problem and keep in it.. dont let wnyone poo poo you.
Its not right for any animal to live that way.
THey may be caged seperately to keep them from breeding,..but G Pigs need care, love and attention.. If they look unhealthy they prob are and are suffering. Poor things
Frankly ,..I would not talk to the head librarian or any of the staff really. THey work there and they can see the g pigs.. its under thier care they are not doing well
Its better to bring in an outside impartial source to take care of it and then they wil also have a record and keep an eye on things after if they leave te gpigs there as well..
Usually they will talk to the owners,, give them care info and let them know what needs to be done and that they will be back to check on it.. then if its not done they take the animals
But in some cases if its bad enough or if the owners volunteer to give them up they will take them right away.
EIther way something should be done.. Others may have called in the past as well ..
Whatever the case.. I commend you for carig enough to do something and not just walk past the poor things and say ooo how sad and do nothing like many would do.
You might also search your local area for a gig pig rescue.
Here is a link that may help

Good Luck. You are doing the right thing. not the easy thing but the right thing.
First, you should just talk to the head librarian. If that doesn't work, contact an SPCA or another animal abuse society. If they are really not healthy, they'll be more than happy to help you.
Woof ! Woof !
I'll ask my master and let you know.
Okay.
Woof ! Woof !
sneak them some oranges. g pigs can not make vit c so they have to be given it in their water and by oranges. not many people know that. if they have a lack of vit c they can be lathargic and sickly. so throw in some oranges (cut them first they wont eat the rind)
It seems sad I know, but if they are of different sex, it would not be so cute. They will fight and most likely hurt each other. that is probably why they are separated.
Maybe they are separated because ones a boy and ones a girl. Get it? And if you think they are in a bad condition then talk to the librarian and see whos in charge of them.
Girl %26 boy piggies shouldn't be kept together - then you'll have LOTS of piggies squeezed into one glass cage! If they're of the same sex, they might not get along. Piggies can be healthy %26 happy alone as long as they're interacted with by their human owners. Do they have hidey places, chew treats, pellets, hay, fresh water, and fresh fruit %26 veggie treats to get their Vitamin C? Are the cages roomy and clean? Those are the questions to worry about. Hopefully the librarians have read up on piggies and know what they're doing. If your interested, my cute little guiena pigs made themselves a website =)

Well for starter piggies should never be kept in glass aquariums as they are made to hole moisture. They should be in an open-air cage when the guinea pig urinates the urine runs to the bottom of the cage it sits there and starts to break down, it turns in to ammonia. ammonia can be bought in liquid form, it is used to strip the wax off of floor, in a fish tank it just lingers in the tank, it cause upper repository infection an pneumonia, this along in animal cruelty ,

cures for mud fever on horses leg?
My horse has mud fever, sores are oozing, legs are swollen, horse is quite sore. Looking for suggestions.
Answers:
Sounds like it is time to trailer the horse and take him/her to the Vet. It might also be a mineral deficiency, or in particular a copper deficiency. Most of everything people are saying on here are good ways to control or manage your horse condition but only a properly trained Vet can tell you for sure what it is and how to properly treat it as well as prescribe the correct medications for your horse in the quantities needed. I would strongly disagree with the twit that said put the horse down simply because of Mud Fever.
You can promote quicker healing by keeping the horse stalled as it sounds like rain is your problem if it is Mud Fever. Along with Mud fever comes what is called proud flesh and the wounds have got to be cleaned regularly and thoroughly to promote good healing. Contrary to what most people think circulation is very very poor in a horses lower extremities and healing is much slower because of it. Hoof and leg injuries on a horse need to be aggressively treated like yesterday to prevent long term problems.
Good luck!!
Oh boy, better call a vet. If your horse is suffering that bad, maybe it needs to be put down.
clip the hair around the wound, clean it thoroughly and try to soften scabs. Wash all the area with medicated shampoo and then apply a peoduct like Greezy Heels Kit. If it's all swollen you'd better give it some antibiotics, but let the vet prescribe them or ya. If after it heals, the skin remains tender, apply castor oil on it twice a day for 1 week.
Frem my experience you use Nitrofurizone Spray to dry out a sore and to moisten cracked heels or such I have simply used good old fashioned lard or bacon grease.
You can find out more in depth info at:
http://www.aromesse.com/pages/mud_fever..
take the horse to the vet i know they are expensive because i took my cat to the vet just for a check up and med it was over $500
Soak the legs to loosen the scabs and then use betadine scrub like surgical scrub and scrub off all of the scabs.
Then cover in antibiotic ointment. I like nolvasan then cover with telfa non stick pads and wrap with vet wrap.
You can leave in place for two days and then change.
It works well and if wraped and coverd they should heal in a couple of weeks.
Try to keep area dry and clean.
found this article on the internet by some equine magazine
Mud Fever hits my one horse (Traveler) every year. This year (2005) rain has continued long past its due. I have treated his feet now 4 times with the treatment since the end of April and still the rain comes and the mud swallows his feet-
So what is Mud Fever and can it be prevented?
Mud fever is known by other names, cracked heel, scratches, rain rot, muddy heel, mud rash. It seems to be attracted to horses that have white feet. Constant exposure to muddy fields allows the bacteria in the mud dermatophilus congolensis to infiltrate the heel of the horse.
The result can vary depending on the time of exposure, but with added contact to the muddy ground, the scabby sking can suddenly become an open, weeping wound, raw and bleeding. For some unknown reason, the back legs are affected more than the front legs.
Mud fever is stubborn and hard to treat. It clings to the feet and the horse becomes sensitive to you handling their feet. In severe cases, getting the horse onto dry areas and out of the mud will help to speed recovery, but then you have a stalled horse that will grow bored out of his mind.
I tried this year to prevent mud fever from forming, and was quite unsuccessful. First, I shaved off all the hair on the back of his feet. Then as the rainy season hit, I tried coating his feet with vaseline to keep the moisture away. Well folks, it didn't work. Trav got mud fever this year worse than ever! The only cure I have found to effectively treat it- is called Aromaheel. You order it out of the United Kingdom and I highly recommend that you do. There is nothing else that I have found that touches this and cures it as quickly as Aromaheel does, that is, if the rain stops! I found out the hard way, you can't cure this until the mud dries up.
It's quite nasty to treat, because the scabby portion of the mud fever sores needs to be removed in order for the ointment to have proper contact to the skin. This involves some scraping and thankfully Traveler is a mellow and tolerant horse and scraping his feet doesn't bother him. I hope that the mud fever will be gone in about a week
I have had this happen. I clean the area with bedadine scrub and warm water. Be thorough but gentle as they can be quite ouchy. Pat dry with new white paper towels (I like the Shop Towel brand). Cover the area with Desitin and stall in a dry deeply bedded stall. If you turn out, turn out in a dry area only, and cleanse dry and reapply the Desitin as soon as they come back in. After 3 days of Desitin, you will cleanse Pat dry and squirt on Gold Bond powder in the green canister 3 times per day. If you can not wash and dry, be sure to apply the Gold Bond powder 3 times a day without fail! It may take up to 15 more days, but the scratches will be completely gone and it will be healing. I like to apply the Desitin after grooming for the next month or so - just to be sure.
This never fails! Be sure to give lots of carrots as your horse is in a lot of discomfort right now.
first off you should not have allowed your horse to have develop mud fever to this degree. I would suggest you call your vet immediately let him deal with it initially. Then you need to keep your horse off the wet muck - if he has to remain outside Id recommend buyiing him a pair of field boots - these will protect the legs from the harsh ground. You need to wash his legs EVERY day with something like dettol mixed in warm water, then dry them downwards with a towel to remove excess water and then apply very generously a cream like sudocream. You need to watch this horse very carefully - it can develop to very serious infections etc if you dont

You need to watch this horse very carefully - it can develop to very serious infections etc if you dont

i hate people that do that
i would love to set one of those dudes that your were talking about's ear on fire! that would show them!
eye for an eye is the bsest way i think. (except for children)
I saw that same show and I was super upset that they did such a thing they should have been persecuted! It's inhumane and heartless. I feel really bad for the bull he didn't deserve that kind of treatment.
There are probably some nimrod's out there defending it as art, like bull "fighting"
It's like the shtick Robin Williams used to say..When was the last time someone went deer hunting and found a deer in camo with an AK47 saying I'm ready for your a*s!
Just when I think that I have been on this Earth long enough to have heard all the freaky and cruel things, I hear another horrible thing. These people should have something of theirs set on fire and see how they like it. That poor Bull. I'm sick to my stomach now..
I wish that all those people who are cruel to animals should get a radish shoved up their anal holes. then light their hair on fire, then pull every single nail from their fingers, then drill a hole in every tooth, the peel skin off of their backs. now I feel better..
I cannot stand it when people are cruel to animals in any way, shape or form. The degenerates. How would they like to be treated the way that way?
you should email about this to the people who run the tv station!
People can be the sickest things in the world!
And you are right about alot of cruelty lately. I do reuse work, and the amount of cases are on the rise!
I have a rescue pup that I kept that was put in a barn with two litter mates in the middle of nowhere, no food no water, no momma to take care of him,
a farmer happened to have problems with his tractor and heard the poor babies crying.
One was was already dead, another had its tail bite off by god knows what and the other was OK. But all where starving dehydrated and covered with wood ticks.
If they didn't want the puts I cant understand why they didn't drop them where someone would find them.
That's just one of the recent horror stories!
I really don't think these people are crazy, I think they have no feelings, no heart and just don't care about anything.
crazy can be fixed, I don't think heartless people can be fixed at all.
Human beings are so stupid. They laugh when something or someone else is in pain and they are just glad that it's not them.
Why?
that is so wrong i heard a dog got lit on fire and surrvived if i were the dog i would've wanted to die
Poor thing!!

There should be like a animal cop department every 10,000 miles diameter. And alot of the animal cruilty may be reduced. It's just so sad. Homeless dogs etc.

I think those people should have their ears light on fire. I can' t believe some people are so ignorant towards animals.
I work at a rescue, and have practically turned away from people. People think that eating meat is innocent. Look at Viva!'s website. Meat is murder and that is the only way of putting it. There is cruelty everywhere and it needs to stop. Animals are abused because they can be. The law does not say how often guinea-pigs need to be cleaned out, but can you imagine if you didn't cleam them out for 4 months? That is neglect, and it all needs to be stopped.

CRICKETS to control spiders?
Is is a good idea to put crickets in your basement to eat spiders? We live in an area where there are lots of poisnious spiders and even w/ exterminations, I still see lots of spiders in the basement and yard.
Is there a down side to letting a few crickets go in the yard and basement? Do they need water or anything else and how many should I place in the basement??
Answers:
You will be feeding the spiders. The spiders will eat the crickets.
Crickets eat vegetable matter
So, what eats spiders?
other spiders
wasps
ants
praying mantis
birds
small reptiles
amphibians
small mammals especially shrews
But I don't think you'd want any of those critters in you basement either
I wouldn't put crickets down there because spiders eat crickets so you're just screwing yourself over if you do that because that will attract more spiders than you already have.
Cats and dogs will actually eat spiders, but I don't recommend getting a pet just for the purpose of dealing with arachnids. Try sprinkling boric acid around the infested areas. It's a known bug repellant.

Crickets and other small bugs!?
Whilst sitting on the wall at lunch, smoking a quick cigarette, I noticed 2 crickets!
It was quite windy, the trees were swaying (quite a bit), and my hair was all over the gaff!
how comes these crickets didn't get blown away (along with other little bugs that weigh, well, not much!)
Answers:
Because they are extremely heavy.. you try picking one of the little bstards up
sticky feet
sticky feet!
Velcro feet
Definitely, sticky feet!
The crickets were thinking "HOLD ON for dear life!"
first-whats a gaff!
second-they have sticky feet, honest
suction cup feet just like flies
They were waiting for Buddy Holly
Crickets (along with many other insects) have small hook-like protrusions on their legs and feet to allow them to grasp smooth surfaces. Hope that helps!
sticky like the underside of catapillars
They have little hook things on their feet, I think most insects do. I used to have real trouble getting my hissing cockroaches off my hand and in to their tank.
Small barb like structures on their feet so they can grip. give a sticky feeling when touched.
I get them on the front of my house, but not the back where it is much more windy.
They have tiny hairs on their feet that act a bit like Velcro as do moths and butterflies

Cow's personality and job?
A cow is a dilligent worker but is a cow's job to eat grass only? What are their personalities?
Answers:
All our cows do is eat grass. Sometimes we'll get a really playful heifer. We actually have a 4 year old cow named Britt that's just a joy to be around. It's pretty rare to get a cow that has anything but a blank look. Our best bull is such a manly man. If he has an audience of more than 3 people, he'll show off.
Depends on how they are raised. The cows that we have raised from babies are sweet and like pets. but some of what we purchase from the stock yards can be mean and aggressive sometimes. We spend lots of time around our cows, so they are used to human contact. We also sweet feed and mineral feed our cows and that makes a big difference. When they realise that you are the one who takes care of them, they respect you and will come when you whistle for them. They are loving creatures when you treat them the way they should be treated. I have plenty of cows who love nose rubs.. One bull even, he has a nose ring so he is calm and is also in many bull shows.
Livestock isnt used the same way as what it was before machines made it easier. Cows are stubborn natured and I couldnt find a job they would be willing to do exept breed.
Check this one out with dairy hands or range hands. Cows do have different personalities. There are always leaders in the herd, and there are followers. Then there is the one who wants to go her own way, regardless of where everyone else is going. Some cows are friendly, others are belligerant, still others are downright spooky. In fact, they are much like people. No two quite the same.
A cow's job is to eat grass, produce milk, produce beef by gaining weight, and to produce calves. She also produces tons of manure, which fertilizes the fields and grows more grass, and vast quantities of methane gas, which would run an incredible number of cars if someone could figure out a way to harness it.
The cows job is to produce calves mainly some are for milking, And some are for meat production. their personalities vary from being pets to being very dangerous.
Cows are like people in that they all have different personalities. We have some cows you can feed out of your hand and others that won't at all. We had an orphan calf once that we raised on a bucket. Wilbur was more like a dog than a calf. When he was old enough I taught him to eat grain by mixing it with his milk and feeding him with a spoon. When he got older, he loved to play with me on our daughter's swing set. I would sit on the swing and he would put his head down and butt me to push me away from him, then he would run backward when I came back toward him. He also loved our vegetable garden. Many times I saw him out there eating the tomatoes off the vine, red foam coming out of his mouth. His favorite was cucumbers, but he couldn't get a bite of them because cattle only have one set of teeth in the front. In order to get him out of the garden, I would have to pick a cucumber and slice it and lead him out one bite at a time. I would guess that the more time you spend with cattle, the more personalty they have. Otherwise, if left alone, they pretty much just do their own thing and ignore you unless you came to feed them.

Cow Tipping Urban Myth?
Do cows actually sleep standing up so can you actually tip them over when they are asleep or is this just an urban (pardon the irony) myth.
Answers:
The real trick to cow tipping is taking city kids out in the country. Tell them everybody out of the car, and when they start walking to the pasture. The country kids get into the car and drive off. lol
PS cow tipping is a myth.
Apparently its true! Do you live near a farm? Go try it and let us all know!
I don't know if they are asleep, but I do know they can be tipped.
Yes, my mom has told me she went "cow tipping" when their neighbors used to have cows!
Horses and cows both sleep standing up.
Hi JoJo
Very good but i think its just a myth. Tho its funny
THUMBS UP FOR YOU
No, people are just finding excuses to be creul. I bet those are the people that drink the milk of a cow too that do or used to do these things. If someone would get doing that in Wi, the farmer would shoot them, no problem.
yes its true cow tipping is a regional sport in the country
Cows and horses can sleep standing up. Cow tipping is not a myth. I have known people who have done it. (Young Farmers, who ought to have known better!)
the people who don't know the center of gravity for a cow think it's a myth. if you try tipping a cow too high or low it won't fall over.
.
I only tip them 10%
It is very true, my friend is a farmer's daughter and her cows have been targeted. Also if you ever see a sheep on its back roll it over coz they cant get up and the birds will peck their eyes out.
Cow tipping is for real, but I wouldn't try it on a bull.
Awww, c'mon, 15% is standard these days.
Yes cows sleep standing- Yes, you can tip them with one finger
while they sleep.
Just watch out when they wake..
yes like horses.

well right now we have two puppies. Our first is a german sheppard-rhodesian ridgeback mix. She's 10 mths old..a real sweet heart. we got her from the pound when she was just a few weeks old. Can you imagine someone actually dumped that little creature in a ditch?! Anyways, she's Meeka, our little darling girl. She wants to play ALL the time NON stop..And then we have Bronx. He's our little 8 mth old american bulldog boy. He's a big baby in a big dog's skin. He'll sit next to you and whine for ever if you dont give him a hug. Im serious. All in all, they're both great! :)
I have one dog named Alex and one kitten named Miley. I just got Miley 3 days ago. SHE IS SOOO TINY! She is one of the cutest kittens on this planet! She is half Siberian, and half tabby cat! I picked the name Miley because I am Miley Cyrus' #1 Fan!lol Let me tell you a little about Alex. He is about a year old, and we got him January of last year. He is the best dog in the world. His real name is Alexander the Great, but we just call him Alex for short.lol.He also has some beautiful colors. He is actually an Aussie Shepherd!
i wish i could, but their are a sleep right now.
in my family of animals i have 2 cats, 1 dog, 1 bunny, 1 guinea pig.
2 cats- one cat is called sven, he is all pure white and completely deaf so he only stays inside, very loving cat with a weird obsession with my daughters ballet tutu. my other cat is doris day, we got her our neighbours moved and left her. very sweet cat but gets scared easily (we think her previous owners treated her badly, a$$holes!)
my dog, lewis,he is mini foxy x, weighs 2.5kilos, is scruffy and looks like an old man, is so loving and beautiful you can't get enough hugs and kisses!
my bunny is called honey, we found him hiding behind a bush in my street, no one claimed him so we kept him. he is a dwarf rabbit, and he is very cute but likes to bite!
my guinea pig is sugar, we brought him to keep honey company. we got a big surprise when they started getting a bit too close(if you get what i mean, wink wink!) then they started to have lovers tiffs and there was a bit of domestic violence from honey, he ripped chunks of fur of sugar, so they had to be separated.
i love all my animals and their beautiful personalities and if i could i would have much more!
I love to talk about my adorable pets. First there's Justin, my 23 year old pony. I've had him since he was 5 and he is the sweetest little guy. He loves to give pony kisses and the fall is his favorite season. When the leaves fall and the wind blows he runs around bucking and neighing and acts like a little boy. Next there's Phoebe, the newest addition to our family. She is a 4 month old African Grey parrot. She loves everyone in her new flock family immensely. She is curious, talkative and playful and, she gives parrot kisses. The adventures are just beginning with her. We have many years to get to know her and learn about her (parrots can live 50 years +) and we are looking forward to every minute of it. I've had so many incredible pets in my life, all of them lived good long lives and I've cherished every friendship I've had with them. Pets, what an incredible gift!
I have a great cat. He is very playful and loves to show off for people. He'll lay upside down and then look at you until you notice him and tell him how cute he is. He loves to grab the wrapping paper from gifts and hide under it. Sometimes I can't find him because he curls up so small. Other times I just don't see him and when I call, he looks at me as if I was nuts. When I first got my cat (my son showed up with him at 3am in the morning) he was very nasty, spitting and hissing. Even the vet told me to get another cat. I found out the cat had been abused in his previous home. I told my vet about it and he recommended ignoring him. It worked! Apparently, cats can't stand to be ignored. He's now a very loving, friendly cat. My cat has made my life complete. It's nice to come home to a friendly feline when the kids are gone and there is no one in the house. He also is learning to ride in a stroller. I'm disabled and can't carry; him and a pet carrier. It is working really well. He's now 9 and the vet diagnosed him with kidney failure due to blood test results. Well, guess what? The numbers reversed. I got a detox for cats and found a substance online called Tripsy that claimed to reverse kidney failure. I started him on it right away. My vet was amazed.
I have a pug about 10 years old. I rescued her from a puppy farm. She had been kept in a cage all her life and used as a breeding dog. Her front legs had been broken and never reset. Her hindquarters are malformed because of a life in a cage. When I got her it was to be a foster dog. Well she bonded to me. She thinks I am everything. I am glad that I am able to offer her the gravy train for the rest of her life!
Got 2 ferrets, I love them, they are my babies. Chewy is the boy, Chica is the girl. They play, fight and get into everything. I want more, but my husband says no, I will talk him into it. They are soooooooo cute when they sleep in the sock drawer or take off with a roll of toilet paper.
I have a darling mare named Chika. She is obese but the funniest horse ever. She got a bucket outta the back of my truck when i wasnt looking and took the lid off and ate all of the treats.
I had a 12 year old golden retriver who recently died. I had him his whole life and i was just devistated. But you like animals you dont wanna hear about that im sorry.
a happy story about him is he used to play with the newborn calves cause he was huge and never seen a dog his size and the calves were his size so he thought they were other dogs. He started playing with him and then the cows attacked him cause they were really protective of their babies. but that didnt phase him he just went back and got attacked again. what a trooper eh..

well right now we have two puppies. :)
